Some Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue

Hi everybody!

My first post and already I am intimidated.

The title of my post has been running through my mind for a little while now. In the next week or so my sister will cease to be a Fortney and start to be a Chavez. I am so happy for her and for her fiancé Josh. I know they will lead a long happy life together.

But enough about them and on to me... and how that age old saying can apply to my “tires in the mud” life.

Something Old

My dog Pete: My dog Pete is a white/brown short haired Jack Russell Terrier that I have had since the seventh grade. This September 10th he will turn 91 (or 13 in human years). This dog is a true inspiration. He has never been sick a day in his life, no one has ever even seen him throw up (a rare feat for a dog his size!) He stills acts like a puppy and keeps up with his 6 month old little brother Bentley. All I can hope for when I am 91 is to be coherent, let alone running around with teenagers.

Pete has been a part of my family and friends lives for so long that I cannot imagine a world without him. I know the day will come and in some way I have prepared myself for the inevitable, but still the thought of not updating Megan Alexander about his latest shenanigans or walking into the house with a friend and not having to say, "Watch out, he bites," still feels odd. Even when he passes (which could be tomorrow or 5 years from now) he will still be a part of my family’s life. I hope my friends as well.

Well, that was a little more long winded then I intended. I will be back later with part numero dos!

PS- Moose, the Jack Russell Terrier from Frasier, lived to be 16 and played Skip alongside his son in the feature film My Dog Skip.
